No game-day party is complete without a classic French Onion dip. This is a simple yet sophisticated appetizer we all know and love.
There’s something about the combination of sweet caramelized onions and tart sour cream that really does it for us. With a few other pantry staples, this French Onion dip is something you can throw together for that last-minute party you decide to host. Pair with some classic potato chips and veggie sticks for good measure!
RECIPE:
French Onion Dip
Serves 6
INGREDIENTS
CARAMELIZED ONIONS
- 2 sweet onions, sliced
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups sour cream
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 dashes hot sauce (optional)
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Chives, garnish
- Dill, garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
- Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add in butter and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Once the butter has melted, add onions and season with salt, pepper and 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce. Stir to coat and cook over low heat (about 25 minutes), adding more oil to the pan if it gets dry. Add the minced garlic and cook for 5 minutes more. Remove from heat and allow to cool down.
- In a medium-sized bowl, add sour cream and mayonnaise, and stir to combine. Add in Worcestershire, hot sauce, garlic powder and onion powder. Fold in caramelized onions and chives before seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate for at least one hour but preferably overnight. Serve garnished with dill, chives and freshly cracked black pepper.
