It’s latke season, and we’ll be enjoying these Spiced Potato Latkes on repeat.
A food processor with a grater attachment makes this easy recipe even simpler, but a traditional hand grater will also do the trick. We love to serve these up with a healthy dollop of applesauce, crème fraîche and thinly sliced chives.
RECIPE:
Spiced Potato Latkes
INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and grated
- 1 small sweet onion, grated
- 1 egg, lightly whisked
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp sweet paprika
- 1/2 tsp ground coriander
- 1/4 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Canola oil, for frying
- Applesauce, for serving
- Crème Fraiche, for serving
- Chives, for serving
INSTRUCTIONS
- Add grated potatoes and onion into a cheesecloth or towel and squeeze out all liquid. Put back into a large bowl and combine with flour, egg and spices. Mix well with a fork.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Using a ¼ cup measuring spoon or large ice cream scoop, measure out the latke mixture and carefully add to the pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy on each side (2-3 minutes each side) and place onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Top with flaky sea salt while still hot. Repeat until all the mixture is fried.
- Serve with a dollop of applesauce, Crème Fraiche and chives.
